About Wave Patrol
Wave Patrol exists to simplify the decision of to go or not to go. Confusing and/or inaccurate forecasts, outdated visual reports and changeable conditions too often led to disappointment. So it was time to do something about it.
What does Wave Patrol do?
Wave Patrol will gives you;
- The current surf conditions based on numerous data points to provide the buoy, weather and tide conditions
- Log Sessions (pro users only)
- Set and get Alerts (pro users only)
Alerts and get alerts currently via Telegram or Twitter (we want to build an app to remove this third party requirement).
Wave Patrol also provides a breaking wave height estimate that we calculate to help remove the need to understand what all the data means. The breaking wave is based on the all of the normal parameters you would expect, such as swell height, swell period, swell direction, wind speed, wind direction and tide. Other factors also go into the calculation. We openly admit that the breaking wave estimate is a conservative approach and the calculation method for each spot is always under evaluation for improvement.
